How do I apply for an Executive MBA program?

You have taken the right next step into your Executive MBA journey.

In the admission process for our Executive MBA programs, we select experienced managers, professionals, and experts who fit the respective profiles of our three Executive MBA programs. The student admission and selection process is the same for all three of our Executive MBA programs. Below you will find all the relevant questions and answers to facilitate your application process.

 

What are the formal requirements for admission?

  • Master’s entry qualification (Bachelor, Diploma, Magister, “Staatsexamen”)
  • Minimum three years of relevant full-time professional experience (after first degree) – initial leadership experience is an advantage
  • Proficiency in English (skills will be assessed during the admission process)
  • Passing the multi-stage admissions process successfully

When can I apply?

We have different Application Periods for our three Executive MBA programs. As our Executive MBA and Executive MBA in Business & IT start in either Spring or Fall while our Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation only starts in Fall. You can find the different application rounds for the respective intakes in the “Application Period” box.

How does the admission process look like?

Candidates should submit their application before a deadline. Complete applications will be considered as they come in and given equal consideration.
There are multiple application rounds and we will consider all the applications from that round before moving on to the applications from the next round. The sooner you submit all your application documents correctly, the sooner we can give you an admission decision.
We recommended the second round at the latest for international applicants who earned their first university degree outside of the EU to guarantee a timely completion of the application process.

In addition, all applicants who obtained their Master entrance qualification in a country outside the EU/EEA or Switzerland, must apply for a verification document via uni-assist. You can have your documents reviewed by uni-assist at any time of the year, and indeed we strongly recommend prospective students who need to apply to uni-assist to do so in good time. At peak periods, the uni-assist process can take up to six weeks to complete.

Special conditions for certain countries: Applicants from China, India or Vietnam need to be aware of additional requirements.

Please upload a PDF of the following documents:

  • Complete and current resume/CV: without chronological gaps, on a monthly basis and in English. Every month since secondary school should somehow be accounted for.
  • Letter of Motivation: in English.
  • Proof of at least three years of relevant professional work experience e.g., by confirmations of references from your current and/or former employers that specifically mention starting and ending dates. Internships do not count. In case of self-employment e.g. a trade register excerpt will be required.
  • Subject and grade transcript of the first university degree (including all passed modules, credits and the final grade). Even if you already have a Master’s degree, the transcript from the first university’s degree must be submitted.
  • Grading system with the maximum and minimum passing grade (often included in the transcript of records)
  • Copy of your valid passport / ID (complete / both sides)
  • If the original documents are not in English or German, please attach additionally a certified translation of the documents
  • Special conditions for certain countries, e.g. applicants from China, India or Vietnam need to be aware of additional requirements.
  • If required: Preliminary review documentation (VPD) by uni-assist.e.v
  • In addition, for the Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation program: please upload an Essay on TUMonline

You will receive feedback on your application as soon as possible, generally within four to six weeks after your application is complete.

We will invite you for a personal admission interview (currently conducted virtually) if you fulfil the central TUM requirements and pass the first stage of the application process.

The admission-interview is held in English by our admission committee. During the interview, alongside English skills, the applicant’s motivation, dedication, abilities and experiences will be assessed. For the Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation entrepreneurial skills will also be assessed.

After the successful completion of both stages of our admission process and the formal acceptance of the study place, further documents will be required to complete your enrollment:

      • In addition, if you have previously been enrolled at a German university:

1. Enrollment certification from the university last attended
2. Enrollment record

Please send the following required documents, ideally all in a single envelope, by post to: Technische Universität München, Studierenden Service Zentrum, Abteilung Bewerbung und Immatrikulation, Arcisstraße 21, 80333 München

      • signed application for enrollment form
      • Notarized hard-copy of the degree certificate (required for your first university degree)
      • Notarized hard-copy of your transcript of record (required for your first university degree)
      • Special conditions for certain countries: If you have completed your first university degree (Bachelor or similar) in China, India or Vietnam you need to be aware of additional requirements (e.g. Original APS Certificate).

Please pay your semester fee in full as soon as possible after you have accepted the study place.
The semester fee is divided into the Basic Student Union Fee and the Basic Semester Ticket. Only after your student fee has been paid and all documents have been submitted you will be officially enrolled as a student at TUM. Once you are officially enrolled, you will be able to print your student documents (enrollment verification and enrollment record) and will receive your Student Card.
