Chair Group of Production and Resource Economics Project Selected for European Union Funding

The TUM School of Management Chair Group of Production and Resource Economics and 18 partners from across Europe have succeeded in obtaining European Union funding for a Horizon 2020 research and innovation project. The project called “EFFECT”, short for Environmental public goods From Farming through Effective Contract Targeting, will receive almost 5,000,000 Euros.

The goal of EFFECT is to develop and pilot a theoretically well-founded and empirically well-adapted package of new contractual frameworks for agri-environment schemes. This should allow farmers to succeed economically while providing more benefits to society in terms of environmental and climate protection. As a key partner within the project group, the Chair Group of Production and Resource Economics will receive around 700,000 Euros from the funding pool. The project will start in April and continues a row of EU funded large scale project engagements of the chair (e.g. EU projects Biomonitor, FiTHydro, or Genesis).

The Chair Group of Production and Resource Economics performs microeconomic analyses of production operations in the areas of agriculture and natural resources. Areas of particular focus include farm management and production, innovation and technology, bio-economy and the interlinkage between agricultural production and other ecosystem services but also water resource management. Interdisciplinary cooperation with international partners and other TUM chairs has helped establish long term research alliances, especially in areas related to the environment and natural resources. The chair is led by Prof. Dr. Johannes Sauer, Expert Advisor to the OECD and Editorial Board member of the European Review of Agricultural Economics and the Journal of Productivity Analysis.
