EMBA Class of 2020 Completes Module “Finance & Accounting”

From 19 – 24 July, 2018, our EMBA Class of 2020 explored the topic of corporate financing in the Executive MBA Core Module “Finance & Accounting”. Aside from providing tools for making well-founded financial decisions, the core module also invited participants to apply their new skills in a business simulation while working on their communications skills.

As an introduction, Prof. Dr. Gunter Friedl, Dean of the TUM School of Management and Chair of Controlling, outlined the fundamentals of “Financial Accounting”. Dr. Peter Schäfer presented the latest findings on “Management Accounting” and Prof. Dr. Christoph Kaserer, Chair of Financial Management and Capital Markets, lectured on “Corporate Finance & Evaluation”.

The Class of 2020 worked on making a positive impression in (new) media during a media training with a seasoned communications expert. As part of the training, participants filmed each other with smartphones to provide the basis for extensive peer-to-peer feedback as part of their Personal Development Program.

On Monday, participants were challenged to not only prove their newly acquired corporate financing skills, but also their communications expertise: During a simulation of a press conference on company financials, communications expert Rainer Westermann placed an emphasis on formal details as well as a self-confident overall appearance.

Evening sessions with communications expert Birgit Ziesche, Henkel AG, and Luc Albert, Managing Director at Swiss Reinsurance Company Ltd., provided opportunities for asking specific questions about the realities of corporate finance in business practice.

The Class of 2020 also organized its own social event with an excellent response: For the “International Lunch”, each class member brought a delicacy from their home country, which created a tasty culinary backdrop for interesting conversations.
