TUM alumnus Christian Mandl awarded BME Science Prize
TUM alumnus Christian Mandl was awarded the BME Science Prize (Wissenschaftspreis) for his outstanding doctoral thesis at the Chair of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. This renowned prize is awarded annually for excellent dissertations in the field of procurement and supply management.
Dr. Christian Mandl, who works in Munich as a consultant in the European Operations Practice of McKinsey&Company, received the award during the 13th Scientific Symposium of the Association for Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Logistics (Bundesverband Materialwirtschaft, Einkauf und Logistik, BME) in Mannheim.
“I am very pleased to receive this award for my doctoral thesis. Especially since it comes from the BME, a federal association with strong practical relevance in the areas of purchasing and supply chain management,” says Christian Mandl. “In addition to scientific criteria, the potential relevance for practice also played a certain role. This shows that the interest in advanced analytics for decision support is growing increasingly”.
In his dissertation “Optimal Procurement and Inventory Control in Volatile Commodity Markets – Advances in Stochastic and Data-Driven Optimization”, he developed and tested mathematical optimization models to enable better decisions in purchasing and warehousing of commodities. He is able to apply his findings well in his current job: The focus of his consulting activities is on digital procurement and supply chain analytics.
