The QS World University Rankings are a worldwide university ranking conducted by QS Quacquarelli Symonds since 2004. The college and university rankings published since 1983 by US News & World Report are considered one of the most influential of all rankings.

Furthermore, the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019 cover a total of 48 disciplines, grouped into five broad subject areas. They are compiled annually to help prospective students identify the leading universities in a particular subject. Research citations, along with the results of major global surveys of employers and academics are used to rank universities.

Universities around the world are compared on the basis of 13 indicators. In addition to research, the main focus of the evaluation is on publications and Nobel Prizes. Every year, a university ranking, for around 800 universities, as well as other rankings “By Faculty”, “By Subject”, “By Location” and “Academic Criteria” are published. With more than 1,200 universities from 78 countries and 48 listed subjects in five higher-level disciplines, the rankings provide a further overview of the international higher education landscape.
